Ranunculus

12x12"
oil on 2"profile gallery wrapped stretched canvas

I painted this one a little while ago. I hadn't painted in a while and just wanted to get back at it. I laid out my palette and just started to paint. My goal was to lay down as much pure color as possible keeping everything quite clean and defined. I love how the ground color (red) peeks through the peddles of the flower and how the shapes in the vase look abstracted. I am fairly happy with this one considering how long it had been since I painted and that my son naps for only 45 minutes at the longest if Im lucky. Nap time is when I try to get into the studio. Its good to be back!

Walking the Red Carpet

6x6"
oil on panel

I found this little creamer at my favorite shop One Mans Treasure here in Stony Plain. I couldn't wait to get it home and do a painting. I have a feeling it will show up in a few paintings from time to time as it was such a joy to paint.

Mug and Willow SOLD

16 x20"
Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I got into the studio the other day and painted this one. I have a collection of these colored mugs that I love. They are like old friends. So it felt like I was having this conversations with this old friend whom I hadn't seen in a while. Our conversation just picked up were it last left off. You know the type of friend? It filled my soul.

What else has been filling my soul...
This is Corwyn, the little man that has brought so much joy!

Here are the two brothers. These boys are what has been occupying my time lately. They are so much fun! And oh how they love each other!

Hope to be in the studio now a bit more. I will post photos of my new space soon too.

Be well,
till next time...

Creative Meditative Workshop

Hello,

It has been way too long since I have put up a post. We are still working on renovations and moving rooms around to accommodate our new baby. We are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel however.

I was asked to do a creative meditation workshop last weekend. A very talented photographer Beth of Beth + Ryan Photography took these photos while participating in the workshop. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Thank you so much Beth!

I had the women look out the windows to the trees by the lake. I read some very inspiring words from a book called Anonymous by Alicia Britt-Chole.

The prologue of the book uses trees to illustrate how our lives have different seasons. She talks about how her skin prefers their role in the summer, but her soul prefers their teachings in the winter. Then she gets into their teachings. She is an amazing wordsmith if you are looking to be inspired.

Then we sculpted trees with wire and glass beads

"Abundance may make us feel more productive, but perhaps emptiness has greater power to strengthen our souls. In spiritual winters, our fullness is thinned so that, undistracted by our giftings, we can focus upon our character."
Taken from the prologue of Alicia Britt Chole's book Anonymous

Can't wait to get back at it!

So no painting this week. Its funny how when I am not using my studio, how it becomes a catch all for things. We are almost done our renovations in the basement which includes my new studio space. My husband has been working so hard trying to get it done. Thats him and my son above in my new studio space painting baseboards. I am not sure when I will get back to painting to be honest there is a lot of transition happening here but it will happen. I ask for your patience in the meantime. Thanks :)

Last Summer Days

10x20"
oil on canvas

This is the scene outside my front room window. I love the bright ash berries and the chains of green weeping birch leaves blowing in the breeze. I now will have a reminder of summer when the snow comes.
