Can't wait to get back at it!
So no painting this week. Its funny how when I am not using my studio, how it becomes a catch all for things. We are almost done our renovations in the basement which includes my new studio space. My husband has been working so hard trying to get it done. Thats him and my son above in my new studio space painting baseboards. I am not sure when I will get back to painting to be honest there is a lot of transition happening here but it will happen. I ask for your patience in the meantime. Thanks :)

Announcement
5 1/2 x 6"
Oil on MDF board
Baby has arrived! Yesterday in the wee hours of the morning Corwyn Michael Powney was born. He is a very content baby which means hopefully I will be able to get back at the painting soon. I will be posting about once a week for a couple of months until we get used to our new normal.

Green Curtain SOLD
20x20"
Oil on Canvas
As promised in a couple of past posts, the larger painting I did for choice of a commission for a lady I know. She did end up taking this one as well. This vase she brought over was so inspiring. The shape, the colors. and the way it magnified the contents when filled with water was so much fun! The flowers were challenging to paint. Poppies move about quite quickly when in a cut arraignment and the little blue flowers are flax, that truthfully were not there at all in this still life. They all fell off the night before so I had to fake it! This one was a lot of fun to do!
Update: No baby yet, still waiting :(

Fuchsia Glow SOLD
6x6"
Oil on MDF Board
I was asked to do a commission piece for a lady. I painted a variety of paintings so she had a few to choose from. This is the one she chose. I just loved how the vase glowed when the light hit it. I painted a larger one with the vase that I will post at some point.
Yay, the weekend is here! Have a good one!

Summer is over and September activities are in full swing. These little daisies may be one of the last reminders of the summer past.

And thanks to all who take the time to type out a few words in the comment sections of my post. I check them regularly and they are always such a pick me up!

I received first place in the Advanced Category of the competition with the painting "Cider Served in Red" pictured here. It truly is an honor.
Check out this cute little movie by Myra "The Greatest Coffee Movie Ever Made" Some of my work is featured in! I love this blog, it gives me a caffeine boost without the caffeine, something I have to watch right now!

I was asked to do a commission piece of white daisies, as they have special meaning for this individual. I ended up being so inspired by the flowers and vases she brought over I painted five 6x6ers for her to choose from and one larger 20x20. I will update availability on the small ones soon as she needs to see them in person yet. The 20x20 she did purchase, and will post it soon too.

Which Ever Way You Slice It
5 1/2 x 6"
Oil on MDF Board
How do you slice your fruit and vegetables? I had this discussion with a friend once when preparing a meal. She slices her produce the same way her mother does as do I. She julians carrots, I cut them on the round. It just made me think what other things I do like my mom that I didn't realize, like how I fold my laundry ect. Its the little things sometimes that make me sentimental!

Tossed About
5 1/2 x 6"
Oil on MDF Board
Strawberries are my favorite to eat, but not so much so to paint. Its really easy to over do it with all the little speckled seeds. I feel I got a bit tight with these (more strawberry paintings to come!) The turquoise fabric reminded me of the waves in hawaii. How I wish I could splash around in them today! Refreshing!

Purple Haze
6x6"
Oil on MDF Board
This is the last of the daisy series, well, for now anyways. The title, well, my brain has been in a haze the last few days. Not the kind sung about in Jimmy's famous song however, no baby brain haze! I am 35 weeks this week and am getting very tired and anxious about everything. I am loving the moments I can sit and paint. This is about the only thing that calms me.

Distracted
6x6"
Oil on MDF Board
It looks as though the daisy's attention is being held by something off to the right, it is not focused on looking forward. This is kind of how my days have been lately, between basement renovations, trying to get ready for baby and keeping my three year old occupied, I find myself getting distracted easily. It will all come together eventually. Till then, I will just keep painting!!

6x6"
oil on canvas
The one off the plate may be the lucky one who got away, his buddies are witness to his escape though. Will they give him up?
I have been receiving fresh garden veggies from people this season, what a treat. We don't even shell these, we eat them whole, shell and all. Run you peas, run while you can!

The Show
The show is up in the Multicultural Center Dining Room. My little paintings look great in that little space!
I am happy to say that my camera is working again, it just needed to dry out. It also took quite a nasty drop today. It needed a bit of TLC but then started working again. Im telling you, it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin!
And just to let you know I am now 30 weeks along and things are going really well.

Oops!!
No painting this time around and not to sure how long it will be before I post again.
We had, using the headlines from the news, "hurricane like weather" hit us yesterday, and sitting in the middle of it was my camera that I left outside after photographing my last piece. Yah, really good one Deltra. Oh well the up side is we will most likely upgrade to a digital SLR. This camera that we had was a good little camera though, Sony Cyber Shot 4.1 meaga pixels. It served its purpose. The new one will be nice for when the baby comes though. So till next time, which hopefully won't be to long...

Sunshine in a Jar SOLD
11 x 14"
oil on canvas
My friend Nancy brought this beautiful sunflower bouquet from her own garden. They are so amazing. I couldn't wait to to capture them on canvas. I hope to do a smaller one if they last till the weekend. I would absolutely love to do a huge canvas of them too, but being on bed rest, it just isn't possible. Maybe next season!
The curator from the gallery was here yesterday. He is so encouraging, it was fun choosing the paintings for the show. We had about 80 to choose from and 32 will be in the show. Some framed, some not.

Crowded Out
12 x12"
oil on canvas
(not for sale)
I had all day yesterday to myself so decided to set up my still life in the living room so I could paint while lying down. This has got to be the most challenging thing I have ever done. It took me all morning to set up between spurts of work and laying down. I ended up wiping the first attempt, then later in the evening finished this one. I am quite happy with it considering I did the whole thing laying down!

$465.00 (Framed)
I will send photos of this piece framed if interested. Email for enquiries.
For my birthday yesterday a friend came over for brunch. She brought these beautiful flowers. Another friend that morning called and asked if she could take my son for a play date with her daughter during the day. While I had the house to myself, I did this painting. What a great birthday!

Apple Blossoms
Monday, June 15, 2009
Crowded Color
11x14
oil on canvas
(not for sale)
My husband and father in law took our son to a car show so I had all day Saturday to myself. I took the time to sleep and paint. It was a perfect day. This is painting I did. I love my flower pots this year. Rich burgundy and orange colored pansies dominate the arrangements. Pansies are so happy with there smiling faces. Something my grandpa admired about this flower.

June Blossoms SOLD
Acrylic on Canvas
16x20"
I have been wanting to paint the apple blossoms that are in bloom right now for days. I had the opportunity to worship through painting at a church function. In preparation for that I painted this still life.(I will post the one I did during the worship time soon.) It had been a while since I actually painted anything let alone painting with acrylic, and painting in front of people, so I felt I needed to do a painting before the actual evening thats what this one is. It felt so good to get back into it. I hope to keep the momentum going now, as I am not feeling so tired these days.
This painting and the subject matter represent for me a new start. With picking up the paint brush this time I felt a newness to my work, something fresh. I through caution to the wind and just started to lay down paint. Also with a new baby on the way, I was experiencing a bit on anxiety with health concerns and just the anticipation of a new addition to the family and all that comes with that. The last few weeks I have been really leaning into God for all of it and seem to be experiencing a peace and a balance. Life is full and is good.

Hello
Hello out there! No I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, there just has been allot going on here the last few months so I figured I would fill you in. I have finished up all of my teaching gigs for now and am now focusing on my own work. I have hit what I call a bit of an incubation time with my work. Different things are coming out of my creative time, I hope to show some of this work here. I am still doing still life work in oil as well and have a show coming up in August, September (Check out the side of this blog for details on that.)
The biggest news I have is I am expecting our second child! We are very excited about this. I have to doctor allot as I tend to have some issues during pregnancies but all is well so far. It is a very exciting time and will continue to be for the next year or so to come. I am three and a half months along due October 7thish.
I appreciate your patience with the sporadic posts. I will be posting more work however in the near future getting ready for this show.
Till next time be well everyone!

Acrylic Workshop

Creative Meditation Workshop
This workshop was part of a weekend ladies retreat held last weekend. The workshop focused on the choices we make when our lives get "interrupted". How we are made or "shaped" plays into how we move through life. And the choices we make and how we are shaped, "leaves a mark" on the people around us. Each point was illustrated by a different painting technique using acrylic paint and was accompanied by a directed mediation reading. The workshop was a great success. The ladies were a lot of fun to work with.
As paint was poured on the canvas the flow was interrupted by the objects placed in its path
Painting in the shapes the objects left. And stamping impressions of images on the surface of the painting.
What a show once all was said and done! A beautiful kaleidoscope of experiences and color!

Workshop Photos and Other Information
I did a Creative Meditation workshop with a great group of ladies on Wednesday. They were a lot of fun. Their pieces turned out so good, and they were so proud.
I have been preoccupied lately with preparing for various workshops and lessons. My posting of my work for the next couple of months may be a bit sporadic. I am painting bigger pieces as well, and of course we are still working on renos for my new studio. Life is a bit crazy, so I will be posting as much as possible, but given the circumstances of life right now, I unfortunately can not make it a priority. April will be the month I will be able to breath again!

For Your Information
I thought I would share a bit about what is going on in my creative life right now. My studio is full of bags of new art supplies purchased for various workshops I have the privilege of teaching over the next two months.
Please visit my blog for more information on the workshops I offer, I am in the process of listing then on the right side of my blog so just scroll down to see them. I will be updating this section periodically so check it out every once in a while.
Because of this full schedule I need to take a week off posting so I can focus on organizing these projects. I will be back posting Monday February 9th. See you then!

Off the Spool
5 1/2 x 6"
oil on MDF board
Valentines Day is coming up so I thought it would be fun to paint something red. This one was a lot of fun because it came together so quickly. Lately it has been taking me at least 2 hours to do a little painting. It was refreshing just to lay paint down and have it effortlessly go where it was suppose to.

Wake SOLD
5 1/2 x 6"
oil on MDF board
The paper underneath was a bit of challenge. I ended up liking this positioning because it looked like the apple was leaving a wake behind it. And as it so happens apple are suppose to help you stay awake. Im told it works better than coffee. I eat apples and then drink coffee. Some days I really need the double hit!
